Our spoof ads

Once we had learnt about spoof ads as well as watched and analysed a few examples, we were ready to create our own. Our creativity was being tested again but we were given some instructions that really helped:

ACTIVITY 5:  In pairs CREATE YOUR OWN SPOOF AD.

Your assignment is to create a print ad spoof. You can choose one of the following methods in creating your spoof:

· use an existing ad and change necessary parts of the copy and visual to spoof the original product or service

· spoof a magazine cover

You may design your ad by choosing on the the following methods:

  • place a clear plastic cover over the original ad and make your changes on the clear plastic sheet
  • draw, cut, and paste to create an entirely new ad
  • scan an existing ad and use computer software to make changes to the original ad

Your ad will be evaluated on the following:

  1. creating a clear spoof message
  2. sustaining the spoof message throughout the ad
  3. maintaining a resemblance of the style of the original ad
  4. incorporating originality and creativity
